What LE actually means
Samsung machines detect water in the base and shut down to prevent a flood. Treat this the same way as a Bosch aquastop trip: isolate the machine and find the leak rather than resetting it and running another cycle.
Before you start
Electrical safety: Standing water inside a mains appliance. Unplug at the wall before anything else.
Water: Turn off the supply tap. A slow leak left running will damage flooring.
What causes it, most likely first
Split door seal
Most likelyThe rubber boot perishes and splits low down where water sits, so it leaks only when full or spinning.
Door seal / bellows£18–£50 for the partDIY with careLeaking filter housing or loose filter cap
CommonA cross-threaded or perished filter seal drips steadily into the base tray.
Overflowing detergent drawer housing
CommonA scaled-up drawer housing backs up on fill and runs down the inside of the cabinet. Look for detergent residue down the front left.
Split internal hose or sump
OccasionalInternal hoses harden and crack with vibration. Finding which one needs panels off.
Bearing seal failure
OccasionalWater past the shaft seal runs down the back of the tub. Usually preceded by months of roaring on spin, and often the end of the machine's economic life.
Drum bearing kit£25–£70 for the partEngineer
How to fix it, step by step
Isolate immediately
Unplug at the wall and close the supply tap. Do not keep resetting to get another wash out.
2 minDrain down and dry the base
Empty the drum through the emergency hose, then with a helper tilt the machine gently back onto its rear feet over towels to empty the base tray.
15 minTowels, Shallow trayCheck the obvious leak points
Peel back the outer lip of the door seal and feel round the lower half for splits. Check the filter cap seats squarely with an intact seal. Look for scale and sludge in the detergent drawer housing.
15 minTorchBook an engineer if nothing is obvious
Anything further means panels off and live testing to find the source. Quote the LE code when booking.

Parts you might need
Typical UK prices for the part alone, before fitting. Worth knowing before you accept a quote — the part is often a small share of what a repair is priced at.
Door seal / bellows
The flexible rubber boot between the door and the tub. Splits in the lower half leak only on fill or spin, which makes them easy to miss.
£18–£50Drum bearing kit
The bearings the drum spins on, plus the shaft seal. Replacing them is a full strip-down and is often the point at which a repair stops being worth it.
£25–£70
Worth repairing, or replace it?
At the top of this range the repair costs a significant share of a graded replacement, which typically starts around £200. Worth getting the quote first, then deciding — on a machine under about five years old a repair usually still wins.
