What DE actually means
The machine will not run until the interlock confirms the door is latched. DE means that confirmation is missing. Newer machines display this as DC. Laundry caught in the seal is the usual answer.

How to fix it, step by step
Clear the seal and close firmly
Run a hand round the whole seal, remove anything caught, and push the door until it clicks.

Switch off at the wall for a minute and restore power to clear a latched fault.
3 minInspect the catch and hinge
Look for wear or cracks on the plastic hook, and watch whether the door drops as it swings. Both are visible without tools.
5 minTorchReplace the interlock if it persists
Interlocks are cheap but sit behind the door seal retaining band. If that is beyond what you want to take on, it is a short engineer visit.
