What E05 actually means
The board asked for heat and the temperature did not rise as expected, so it stopped rather than continue blind. Either the element has gone open circuit, or the sensor reporting temperature has failed. Both sit behind the drum next to mains wiring, which makes this an engineer job.

How to fix it, step by step
Confirm the symptom
Run a 60°C wash and feel the door glass twenty minutes in. Cold glass throughout points at the element or relay; warm glass suggests the sensor.

Switch off at the wall for five minutes and restore power to rule out a latched fault.
10 minUse cold cycles in the meantime
A cold or 20°C programme avoids the heating circuit on most models. Stop using the machine entirely if you smell burning.
